Greening Port Phillip, An Urban Forest Approach - Draft

This consultation has concluded.

Council has developed a new strategy to guide future tree planting and management in Port Phillip. The draft strategy reflects current challenges being faced by the city, such as a changing climate, an aging tree population and increasing population, as well as incorporating the outcomes of extensive communtiy consultation undertaken in 2009.

The community feedback period was from the 11th of May to the 1st of June. Any feedback received within this time will be considered in final version of the strategy.

The draft strategy presents a strategic framework for managing trees that includes:

- A tree policy that states council's policy positions for eight key tree management areas and lists the actions that will be taken to implement the policies.

- A street tree planting guide that will guide annual street tree planting programs based on the results of a streetscape assessment undertaken every five years.

- Tree management guidelines that describe all council's tree planting and maintenance processes and legislative requirements.

-  Tree management plans including precinct master plans, park master plans and streetscape design plans.

Council would like your feedback on the draft strategy. Download the draft strategy from the online library, join the online discussion and have your say. You can also view the results of the consultations held in 2009 by selecting a document in the online library.
